Organising a fitting farewell for a loved one is hard, really hard. You are dealing with such intense grief, your world may be turned upside down, there are people to contact, paperwork to fill in, decisions to be made….
A professional Celebrant will help, along with the Funeral Director of your choice, to build a farewell ceremony for your loved one that reflects their life, their impact and relationships, the things worth celebrating about them and what they meant to their friends and family.
It’s daunting having to think about this at such an awful time, so here’s a quick overview that might help, of the things a Celebrant will ask about your loved one, to build a personal and reflective service for you:
*****
Relationships: who they loved, who they were related to and how, and what that relationship looked like
Places and their memories: not just where they grew up, but where they worked, volunteered, walked, played.
Things they enjoyed or were good at, from a favourite football team to TV programs they wouldn’t miss.
Any achievements you think should be honoured: these can be major or minor, from rescuing a cat at age 10, to running a marathon at 70.
*****
You might want to think about any favourite music they had, as music can be a good time to reflect duing the ceremony, giving you time to breathe.
Whatever you want to say about your loved one, a great Celebrant will help draw out the stories and create a memorable reflection on the life they lived.
